Foods You Shouldn’t Be Eating

Truly, we already know there are plenty of foods we should not be eating. We shouldn’t be eating cookies or burgers every single day because they’re high in fat and sugar, and everything in excess is just bad for us. Did you know there are certain foods that experts are saying we should stop eating altogether? These foods include:

White Chocolate

The health benefits of pure cacao is quite significant. Organic dark chocolate is rich in phytonutrients that can protect blood vessels, improve your overall mood, and increase blood flow to the brain. White chocolate has none of these nutritional properties. It is essentially just a sugary snack.

Canned Tomatoes

Really any canned vegetable, not just tomato, is something you should stay away from. This is because of the BPA, or bisphenol-A, found in the linings of tin cans. BPA has been linked to issues such as diabetes, obesity, and reproductive problems. Choosing vegetables bottled in glass is a great alternative to cans, and can be reused for things like glassware or decoration.

Artificial Sweeteners 

 Although artificial sweeteners, used in place of refined sugar, do not contain any calories they can be just as bad, if not worse. Artificial sweeteners found in packets, diet soda, and gum contain aspartame, which has been shown to cause high blood pressure, weight gain, joint pain, headaches, depression, and even cancer. Ingesting any sort of unnatural chemical is absolutely horrible to your body both physically and mentally.

Nonorganic Strawberries

While you’re in the produce aisle looking for those succulent little red berries, you ought to be looking for that “USDA Organic” sticker as well. You can guarantee, nonorganic strawberries are ridden with pesticides. The Environmental Working Group found 13 different kinds of pesticide residue on nonorganic strawberries.

Swordfish

Typically, pregnant women or women looking to become pregnant, are advised not to eat swordfish as it contains high mercury content. Mercury can hinder development in children, especially in the womb, and can actually trigger heart attacks in adults. Opt for fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as Atlantic salmon or Pacific albacore tuna. 

Becoming aware of certain chemicals in food items is a great way to maintain healthy eating, and even prevent possible health issues. When we make it a point to educate ourselves, we can begin the process of maintaining a better quality of life!
