The Perfect Combination: Foods With Flavor and Health

When I usually think about eating healthy, I picture a dull salad full of raw veggies, little to no flavor, and a complete lack of any sort of dressing. Eating like a bird, it’s called. Yuck. Maybe this is why so many people have such a hard time with a healthy diet. Would you rather have a bowl full of lettuce or a cheeseburger with curly fries? No-brainer.

If this sounds a bit too much like you, it probably shows in your weight and overall health. Luckily, there is a way around this predicament. Believe it or not, there are healthy foods out there that pack a flavorful punch and keep your tastebuds satisfied. Take a look at a few of these foods, along with their healthy benefits, discussed below.

Dark Chocolate

If you must have some dessert, reach for some dark chocolate. Not milk chocolate, or peanut butter wrapped in chocolate, or chocolate full of caramel. You have to choose the regular, slightly bitter dark kind. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants to give your body a healthy boost. It’s also extremely rich and slightly bitter, so you’re unlikely to overindulge. Just one piece a day is enough to bring the healthy benefits without negative side effects.

Melons

You can choose your favorite kind, as they all bring some healthy benefits. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon are great places to start. They all have a healthy dose of vitamins, such as Vitamin C and E, and they also contain extremely high amounts of water. The water content alone is enough to help you feel full as well as flush out your system. Eat these with breakfast or lunch, as a snack, or as a satisfying and healthy dessert.

Nut Butter

Adding some sort of nut butter to your diet can give you a blast of protein, a dose of healthy fats, and a small boost of energy to help you make it through the day. While most of us are familiar with peanut butter, you can also find items such as almond or cashew butter in most local grocery stores. The key to gaining the good from this food is to eat in moderation. Nut butters are high calorie, so follow the appropriate portion size and enjoy your treat.

Eating healthy can be boring if you let it be. But, if you’re willing to put in the time, energy, and a little bit of research and preparation, eating healthy can be fun and delicious. Give these three foods a try. You’ll soon have a healthy and flavorful diet to last a lifetime.
